Documents

Clear guidance for confident international shipping.

The right shipping documents help the carrier identify the shipment and help authorities assess its contents. Requirements differ for documents, commercial goods, personal effects, and regulated items.

Common shipment documents

  • Package label or waybill: identifies the sender, recipient, carrier service, package, and tracking reference after booking.
  • Commercial or pro forma invoice: describes goods, quantities, values, origin, and transaction details for applicable cross-border shipments.
  • Packing list: shows which items and quantities are inside each package.
  • Declarations, permits, or certificates: may be required for controlled goods or particular destinations.
  • Dangerous-goods documents: may be required after classification and acceptance by an approved carrier.

Prepare accurate information

Use consistent sender and recipient details across documents. List each item's description, quantity, value, and country of origin, and check that the packing list matches the physical packages. Review all generated documents before dispatch.

These are examples, not a universal document checklist. The carrier and destination authority determine the forms required for a particular shipment. This page does not provide downloadable third-party forms.
